چکیده

Transient regimes arise when the propeller of a ship is operating in extreme seas, where ventilation and in-and-out of water effects results in loss of propeller thrust. By introducing Lyapunov based controller state reset, the performance in transient regimes may be increased without influencing the performance in calm seas. Improvements have been presented previously for dynamically positioned (DP) vessels. Transit operations, however, introduces additional losses due to variations in the propeller advance velocity. The controller in this paper combines an existing shaft speed reference generator that uses an estimate of the propeller torque losses with a PI shaft speed control law with integrator reset. Moreover, an anti-spin strategy is included to be able to operate also in extreme seas. The method is experimentally validated in a towing tank. Copyright c ©2007 IFAC

A Four-Quadrant Thrust Controller for Marine Propellers with Loss Estimation and Anti-Spin

In this paper a nonlinear thrust controller for a fixed pitch marine propeller with torque loss estimation and an anti-spin strategy is presented. The controller, designed to work in the four-quadrant plane composed by the shaft speed and the vessel speed, is a combination of a thrust controller designed for calm sea conditions and an anti-spin strategy to reduce power peaks and wear-and-tear i...

A New Method for Detecting Ships in Low Size and Low Contrast Marine Images: Using Deep Stacked Extreme Learning Machines

Detecting ships in marine images is an essential problem in maritime surveillance systems. Although several types of deep neural networks have almost ubiquitously used for this purpose, but the performance of such networks greatly drops when they are exposed to low size and low contrast images which have been captured by passive monitoring systems. On the other hand factors such as sea waves, c...

Species distribution modelling of invasive alien species; Pterois miles for current distribution and future suitable habitats

The present study aims to predict the potential geographic distribution and future expansion of invasive alien lionfish (Pterois miles) with ecological niche modelling along the Mediterranean Sea. The primary data consisted of occurrence points of P. miles in the Mediterranean and marine climatic data layers were collected from global databases. All the used models run 100% su...

A Comparison of Different Control Design Methods for the Linearized CSTR Temperature Model

Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) has particular importance in chemical industry. CSTR has usually a nonlinear behavior which makes it difficult to control. The reactor has two parameters: the concentration and temperature of mixture both of which are uncertain. This case of CSTR has large disturbance in domain. In order for disturbance rejection, a controller has to be designed. In this p...
